Makerspace at Amherst Middle School

As schools around the world lock down their buildings, we found a way to open our doors to the local community.

Amherst Makerspace is possibly the first adult makerspace to make a public school’s idle industrial arts resources available to the community.

In today’s world, school shop class is in decline. We are transforming Amherst Middle School’s Industrial Arts program into a thriving innovation and design lab for the kids during the day and an adult community makerspace in the evening.

Amherst Makerspace provides a large workshop space filled with all the tools and knowledge to build or make anything you can think of. Open to all area residents, membership provides adults after-school access to 11,000 square feet of space and use of our resources. A family membership provides parents the ability to help their children work on their school projects, and proceeds help grow and support the school’s innovation and design program. Open House is every Thursday 6–9 p.m.—stop by and check us out!
