For Immediate Release:

On Wednesday, March 30th, the Amherst Middle School was honored as a new NELMS Spotlight School at the 36th Annual Conference of the New England League of Middle Schools in Providence, Rhode Island.    Spotlight Schools are recognized for their use of research based best practices for early adolescents and commitment to providing rigorous instruction in a safe and nurturing environment.    The Amherst Middle School received this award after submitting application materials denoting school statistics and biographic profile, a self-assessment, and a site based visit by a team of reviewers.  There are currently just 35 Spotlight Schools throughout New England.   Attending the conference in Providence to receive the award from NELMS Executive Director Jerome Frew were Dean of Instruction, Bethany Bernasconi, Dean of Students Dr. Lisa Femia-Hou, and Principal Porter Dodge.

On Friday, May 5th, Executive Director Frew attended a celebration assembly to formally present the NELMS Spotlight School Banner to the entire school.  Solo singers, jazz band, 8th grade band and chorus, and the 5th grade chorus provided the entertainment for the celebration.
